What is a Hybrid Electric Vehicle?

Toyota hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) are designed to help you get the more out of your drive with fewer emissions. It's advanced in every way while taking complicated out of the picture. Once you make the switch, you won't have to worry because it is easy to own and maintain.
HEVs combine the power of conventional engine with the fuel savings and eco-friendliness of an electric motor.
Toyota HEVs like the Prius, Prius C and Corolla Altis Hybrid are powered by a self-charging electric motor – so there’s no need to plug it in.

HEV has two power sources; Gasoline engine and Electric motor resulting in greater efficiency.

Life's better with Hybrid

There's nothing complicated about driving a Hybrid. See how Toyota's designed them to be as easy to live with as any conventional car.

Frequently Asked Questions

Toyota positions hybrid technology (which includes the component technologies necessary to develop electrified-cars) as a core technology that can be used with a variety of fuels. We believe it is a key way of improving fuel efficiency, reducing CO2 emissions by saving energy, and enabling the diversification of fuels.
Toyota Hybrid System (THS) combines a high-efficiency engine with a high-output motor so the efficiency of both power sources is realized depending on cruising conditions. It is an energy management system that pursues the best possible efficiency.

Furthermore, Toyota’s hybrids are Series-parallel hybrid. This refers to HEVs which are equipped with relatively big batteries and motors. Series-parallel hybrid can run on EV mode alone for periods where engine efficiency is not good. Strong HEVs achieve good fuel efficiency and environment performance.
The battery lifespan is the same as the vehicle’s lifespan. Like gasoline vehicles, the HEV’s lifespan depends on usage circumstances. Basically, no periodical maintenance for HEV battery is needed.
Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) do not need to be plugged-in since they are self-charging. The battery is charged through the motion and braking of the car, thanks to the combination of petrol engine and electric motor. Through "regenerative braking", energy that would've been lost from stepping on the brakes is stored in the battery instead.
Toyota has introduced a system across Asia for collecting and reusing used HEV batteries for HEV vehicles, using the used-battery alone for other purposes, and extracts rare metals such as cobalt from batteries to reuse them.Toyota’s Nickel batteries are also 100% recyclable.
Any normal unleaded gasoline.
Normal periodic maintenance as any conventional vehicle :) Your regular PMS essentially.
The battery is designed to last the life of the car. The car has normal 3 year warranty while the battery has 5 year warranty, though again, is designed to last well beyond the warranty.
The Hybrid system intelligently does the switching for you seamlessly based on your speed, acceleration, etc. You have the option of going in pure EV mode by pressing the EV Mode button. This is if the battery has enough charge and if you driving below 50 kph.
Of course. Simply bring it to any Toyota dealership like your conventional Toyota vehicle and they will know how to service it.
