It’s go time! Round 3 of the Toyota GR GT Cup is coming right up

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) continues to serve an entirely new level of excitement with the upcoming third and final round of its premiere e-motorsports program, the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GT Cup Philippines. The event, which will be broadcast on June 24 and 25, remains to be a stage for both upcoming and professional e-sports athletes to showcase their skills and talents, all the more that the digital gaming arena proves to be a truly exciting scene to watch out for.

Albeit a virtual event, the racers flew abroad to the famous Suzuka Circuit for Round 1 and the Autopolis International Racing Circuit for Round 2. Still in Japan, Round 3 will take place on the Tokyo Expressway, a fictional city circuit that appears in the Gran Turismo Sport game on the PlayStation and spans a total of 4.4 kilometers with 12 turns.

For the participating e-racers, this round will press them to take advantages into their own hands. Points assigned to the placers will be doubled as compared to the 1.5 multiplier from the second round. This means that those in the top spots can have a chance to widen the gap between them and those trailing behind. Racers near the tail also have a chance to double their points and steal the leading positions.

How have the racers faired so far? The Junior Class has been showing a lot of potential. David Ison is up on top at 42.5 points overall so far in the race, with Joaquin Garrido only half a point shy at 42, and Joshua David Marquez at 27 points. Thanks to the multiplier, Ison rose on top despite finishing second during the Round 2 race heat.

For the Promotional Class, a good mixture of new and familiar names dominate the leaderboard. Factoring in the second-round multipliers and adding their total scores so far, Matthew Spencer Ang comes up on top with 62.5 points, followed by Stanly Theodore Golez with 48, and Julius Quitlong with 42.  Their recent performance wowed audiences, including TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippines Ambassador Marlon Stöckinger, who has been co-hosting the livestreams.

And for the Sporting Class – after back-to-back racing action, and while quietly working and maintaining his stature, Russel Reyes finishes first without a sweat in Round 2, followed by Estefano Rivera, and Lance Padilla. Factoring in the multiplier points and the total scores achieved over the last two rounds – Russel Reyes leads with 52 points, Estefano Rivera with 39, and Jether Miole with 37.5.

E-racers got to drive the virtual Toyota GR Supra during Round 1 and the Toyota GR Yaris for Round 2. For the third and final round, participants will get to feel the thrill of the GR86! Winners from the local rounds will then head on to compete at the national final round, where they will be up against the top racers nationwide.

Cash prizes and GR GT Cup merchandise await the winners of the local rounds and national final round. Winners will also represent Team Toyota Philippines in the Asia regional rounds and participate in the Autocross Challenge of TMP’s premier one-make race series, the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Vios Cup.
